Creating Safety for Pets; and Peace for Survivors
At Purple Paws for Peace, we believe no survivor should ever have to choose between their own safety and the well‑being of a beloved pet. Domestic violence often forces impossible decisions — but when animals have a safe place to go, survivors can enter shelter, reclaim their lives, and begin healing without fear, guilt, or hesitation.
Our mission is simple: to remove the barrier that keeps so many survivors from seeking help. By providing safe, trauma‑informed care for their pets, we give survivors the freedom to step out of danger and into support and healing — knowing their animals are protected, loved, and doing their own healing in a calm, stable environment.
Every animal in our care receives gentle handling, daily enrichment, emotional comfort, and access to veterinary support. Our team understands the stress and confusion pets experience during crisis, and we create predictable routines that help them feel safe and understood. When survivors know their animals are protected, they can focus on healing — and that safety becomes the first step toward long‑term stability.
Our work is built on collaboration. We partner with domestic violence shelters, advocates, law enforcement, and community organizations to ensure survivors have a clear, compassionate pathway to safety. When a survivor reaches out for help, we coordinate closely with their support team to provide secure placement for their pets and keep the process as simple and dignified as possible. Every case is handled with respect, the utmost confidentiality, and a deep commitment to honoring both the animal’s and survivor’s autonomy and emotional needs.
We support survivors of all genders, backgrounds, and identities, along with the pets they love — furry, feathered, or scaled. Our work is grounded in compassion, dignity, and survivor autonomy, ensuring every person and every animal is treated with the care they deserve.
At the heart of Purple Paws for Peace is a simple promise: you are not alone. Your safety matters. Your pets’ safety matters. And together, we can remove one of the most significant barriers that keeps survivors from seeking help. By protecting the animals they love, we help survivors reclaim their future — one safe step at a time.
Purple Paws for Peace received federal 501(c)(3) tax‑exempt status in 2026. This designation affirms our mission and allows us to accept tax‑deductible donations, apply for grants, and expand our services to survivors and their pets.
